About me
I’m Mikayla, and I specialize in finish selection and space planning for remodels and new builds.
I’m third generation in construction and have been around building and remodeling my entire life. I grew up on job sites, watching homes take shape from the ground up and learning what it really takes to build something well — not just how it looks, but how it functions, lasts, and lives over time.
My grandfather was a commercial contractor who worked on everything from hospitals to custom homes, and my dad followed in his footsteps building spec and custom homes throughout the Central Valley. Being around active construction from an early age gave me a practical understanding of how decisions made on paper translate to real life — budgets, timelines, materials, and execution.
At the same time, I was exposed to the creative side of building through my mom, who handled the design details — furniture, fabrics, finishes, and layouts. I spent countless hours in fabric stores and furniture showrooms, watching how thoughtful choices could completely change the feeling of a space. That balance between structure and creativity is what shaped the way I approach design today.
Over the years, I’ve realized that while I love the building process, my passion is in the decision-making phase — the finishes, materials, and layouts that determine how a home ultimately feels and functions. I’ve remodeled two homes, built two from the ground up, and worked through countless finish and layout decisions along the way. My background in photography, fashion, and boutique ownership has further refined my eye for balance, proportion, and detail.
Today, I help homeowners navigate what can be the most overwhelming part of a remodel or build: making confident, cohesive decisions before construction begins. My role is to bring clarity to the process — narrowing options, offering clear direction, and ensuring selections feel intentional, timeless, and appropriate for the home and the people living in it.
I work best with clients who value thoughtful planning, practical guidance, and design that’s meant to last. Rather than chasing trends, I focus on creating spaces that feel well considered, functional, and personal — homes that look beautiful but also work beautifully.
While I’m based in Modesto, California, my consulting services are available nationwide, allowing me to work with clients wherever they’re building or remodeling.
